Title: 1850s Fanny Drawing
|
| |
Description
Fanny is a really well done charcoal or graphite drawing. The pretty
victorian girl is shown looking to the viewers left with a large puff shoulder treatment that has a straight
lace bodice. She has a center large sash belt and a yellow flower in her sash. The signature on the left is
Browne and could be any of several artists. This portrait was found in the estate of a prominent New England
antique collector and other than a small hole in the center of the top and water marks on the corners of the
paper is in remarkable condition for the age. This probably dates to the 1850s and is in the original
Mahogany frame. The frame has minor scratches to the surface but is in the original with the original finish
and certainly is not objectionable in condition. |

Title: Tree Trunk Drawing
|
| |
Description
Signed Kathy Reiby and dated 8/72, this pen and ink shows a
tree in a stark background. The frame is a simple black frame that offsets this and makes the tree and the
trunk look as though it had been there for years. The details appear to be very precise and exact with a
very crisp image of this tree, leaves and branches. |

Title: Santa Claus Drawing
|
| |
Description
What a laugh, Santa trying to keep someone from hauling off a commode in a
wheelbarrow. A snow covered dome of a church in the background, silver stars in the sky, this is a really
neat and funny drawing. The frame is original, no signature, this is a really funny image to see Santa ready
to to go the bathroom and the commode leaving. Probably from the 1960s based on the frame design, this image
is one of mirth. |

Title: The Thatcher
|
| |
Description
The Thatcher is an outstanding print/engraving that shows figures
thatching a roof of a roadhouse in Britain. The figures are a man on a ladder working on the roof, a lady
holding a bowl, a man looking up the ladder, two horses, one with a traveler and a lady walking along with a
basket and even a pig eating on the ground. The sign outside the roadhouse has a bird. The frame is old and
the glass has numerous bubbles, waves and is certainly ready for home use with only minor loss of plaster to
the edges and one small area on a side. The markings on the top are Republished by Louis Wolfe in London and
George Morland on the lower left as well as Engraving Mezzotint by William Ward. This is a really pretty
image, a subject matter that does not surface frequently, and the appeal for travelers to Britain
unmistakable. |

Title: 19th Century Europoean Horse Drawing with Rider
|
| |
Description
The name is in the almost center
of the bottom and hard to read, I am guessing at it but may be wrong. It is no doubt 150 years of age and
very appealing. The entire image is appealing with an elderly gentleman in a top hat riding a horse. The
colors in the horse are simply fantastic with hues of light reflecting on the obviously brown major color.
The horses hoofs and legs are extremely well detailed and there is a graphite sketched background. Original
frame, pine with incised or inlaid lines, this is a fine piece of horse art and collectors for this type of
image would be thrilled to own this. |

Title: Hunting Dogs Attacting the Wild Boar
|
| |
Description
Given as a gift by Paul A. Chew of the Westmoreland County Museum of
Art to a collector, the notation that is on the back is that Mr. Chew purchased this charcoal in Europe and
felt that the owner would like it as a gift. The image is one of 6 dogs attacting a wild boat from all
sides, all very well detailed with a muscular structure that is unbelievably minute and the fur on the boar
just looks real. In the background is arider on a horse with another person beside. There is a lot of
action in this painting and it has a really good appearance. |

Title: A Cold Winters Evening Scene
|
| |
Description
A Northeastern pastel painting from circa 1910-25, this very cold image shows snow on the ground
with all sorts of chilling thoughts at the end of the day. Rural life was portrayed as being pure and
wholesome years ago and an agrarian lifestyle was always wished for by city dwellers or individuals no longer
living out on the land. One can just imagine the winters cold coming in from all sides to make the residents
of this picture very miserable and finding a fireside warmth for the evening. The presentation here is so
crisp and clean it is very appealing. The frame is the original and for close to 100 years of age in good
condition. |

Title: American Pastel Landscape, 19th Century
|
| |
Description
During the late 19th century, many artists drew nature around them. This image shows a lane
beside a water stream and a house in the background. A well known antique dealer had this hanging in her
house during the 1950s and her family decided to sell it recently. No artists signature, no doubt this is
close to 100 years of age, there is some damage to the frame that could be repaired, but the glass is both
bubble surfaced and sand pitted as well. You could not ask for a better glass over an image. The pastel is
clean, crisp and in excellent condition. |
